It provides university education and continuing training in the fields of agronomy, technology and related sciences, which should enable the development and research structures of high-level professionals and researchers. The Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension is one of the faculty's divisions.

The external pageUniversity of Parakou is the second state university of Benin. It was created in 2001. The Faculty of Agronomic Sciences offers professional degrees in different fields of specialization: sciences and techniques of vegetable and animal production, development and management of natural resources, as well as rural economics and sociology. The general aim of all programs is to provide their students with a wide range of skills in their field.

Esaïe Gandonou is an associate professor at the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension of the University of Abomey-Calavi. He holds an MSc degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of National and World Economics in Sofia, Bulgaria and a doctoral degree from the Free University (VU) in Amsterdam, Netherlands. His interests lie in impact evaluation and development projects, measurement and analysis of poverty, agricultural policy analysis, agricultural production economics, agricultural marketing and pricing.

Guy Sourou Nouatin is a professor at the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology of the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Parakou, Benin. He holds an MSc degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Abomey-Calavi, Benin, and a doctoral degree in Agricultural Extension and Communication Sciences from the Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany. His interests lie in communication for rural development, farm management and advisory services, social impact evaluation of development projects and programs, contribution of farmers’ organizations in agricultural development, innovation systems and social actors. Guy Sourou Nouatin has also achieved more than 20 years experience in research and counseling services to development agencies and is currently working on innovation studies, job analysis and skills development, youth labour market transition and socio-economic and gender analysis.

Dr. Sylvain Kpenavoun Chogou

Sylvain KPENAVOUN CHOGOU is an agricultural economist. He holds the agricultural engineering degree from the Faculty of Agronomic Sciences, University of Abomey-Calavi (UAC), Benin, an MSc and a Ph.D degrees in Agricultural Economics from Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech, University of Liege, Belgium. He is interested in trade policy analysis, value chain analysis agricultural transformation and impact analysis, as well as data management and econometrics. He is a citizen of Benin and has been an African Growth and Development Policy (AGRODEP) Modeling Consortium member since September 2018. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Abomey-Calavi (UAC). In this position, he gives courses in database management, agricultural household economics, research methodology, operational research, statistics applied to social sciences, mathematics for economists, farm management, etc. In addition, he is in the position of head of the Statistics Office at the Rectorate of the UAC since 2012. Dr. Rubain Adéyèmi Bankolé

Rubain Adéyèmi Bankolé is working as a research assistant at the Department of Rural Economy and Sociology of the University of Parakou, Benin. He holds a PhD degree in Sociology of Development from the University of Parakou, Benin. He worked as research assistant, in the period from 2014 to 2017 in the Lab of religions, societies and development (Laboratoire d’Analyse et de Recherche Religions, Espaces et Développement – LARRED), University of Abomey-Calavi. He completed his advanced Master in sociology of development in 2016 and received in 2014 his Master of Arts degree in sociology of education from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Abomey-Calavi, Benin. He’s interested in the reforms of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET), innovation studies, youth labour market situation and skills development.
