It is dedicated to interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research in the field of educational sciences aiming to improve the Costa Rican education system and to enhance cooperation and research in the field of education at a national and international level. It provides specialized courses and workshops on education, research, and other education-specific areas.

Jacqueline García Fallas is a philosophy graduate and educator. She holds a doctoral degree in Education from the University of Costa Rica (UCR). She is a professor of philosophy and teacher education in the fields of epistemology and the theory of education, as well as a postgraduate professor in different programs at the University of Costa Rica, including: the Master's Program in Evaluation of Social Development Programs and Projects, as well as the Doctoral Program in Education.

She is an education researcher with more than 20 years of experience and has coordinated interdisciplinary and inter-institutional research teams in different areas of interest, among which it is worth highlighting the following: information and communication technologies applied to education; environmental education in universities; initial teacher education; education in values and human rights; education and gender; reading comprehension in primary education. Currently, she is involved in the field of education for work.

She has held the following academic administrative positions: member and coordinator of the Ethical Scientific Committee of the University of Costa Rica and Deputy Director of the School of Philosophy. At the moment, she is Director of the Institute of Education Research (INIE) and of the Revista Actualidades Investigativas en Educación (INIE’s own education research journal). Additionally, she is a member of the Education Postgraduate Commission of the Faculty of Education, member of the Council on the General Education System of the UCR and the Subcommittee on Environmental Education of the National Rectors’ Council of Costa Rica.

Silvia Camacho Calvo, MA

Silvia Camacho Calvo is a researcher at the Institute of Education Research (INIE), of the University of Costa Rica. She is also a lecturer in the non-formal education degree program. She graduated from Psychology and in Program Administration with emphasis on Non-Formal Education, both from the University of Costa Rica. Additionally she did a master’s degree in education with emphasis on educational evaluation, also at the University of Costa Rica. The last seven years she has been researching the technical education proposal of the Ministry of Public Education and its educational approach by competences, as well as its relationship with the labor market. This has been done from the Research Program of the National and Regional Education Observatory at INIE.

Clyde Caldwell Bermúdez, BA

Clyde Caldwell Bermúdez is a researcher at the Institute of Education Research (INIE), of the University of Costa Rica. He is a lecturer in the non-formal education degree program. He holds a degree in Social Anthropology, from the University of Costa Rica and is finishing his Master Degree in Central American Rural Education, from the National University of Costa Rica. He has been researching and working in fields such as: Adult Education, STEM programs, Gender gap in secondary education and rural territory transformation.

Adriana Alpízar Alpízar is a research assistant at the Institute of Research in Education (INIE) of the University of Costa Rica (UCR). She graduated from Spanish Philology at University of Costa Rica and is currently enrolled in the program of Non-Formal Education Administration also at UCR. She has been part of the research team since 2022 and continues to study and research for the implementation and improvement of Technical Professional Education and Training in Costa Rica.

Daniel Mora Montoya is a research assistant at the Institute for Research in Education (INIE) of the University of Costa Rica. He graduated with a degree in industrial process engineering and is currently a student in Non-Formal Education Administration. He is part of the research team since 2021.

Melissa Edith Valverde Hernández, BA

Melissa Edith Valverde Hernández is a researcher and statistics professional at the Institute of Education Research of the University of Costa Rica. She graduated from Statistics and also from Actuarial Science at University of Costa Rica. Currently, she is finishing postgraduate studies in Statistics at UCR. Also, she has a specialization in Development Project Management obtained at the Central American Institute of Public Administration. She collaborates in quantitative and mixed analysis in the project.
